Consistency is the key for success

Whether your goals are running a 5km to marathons, build muscle, fat loss, or just coming a healthier version of yourself being successful in achieving your goal all comes down to one thing.............consistency!

Consistency means constantly repeating the same action or behaviours. It means acting in a certain way time after time to achieve your goal.

So, as runners, a consistent runner will plan to train four times per week, running a totally of 30 miles, with quality sessions on a Tuesday and Thursday, easy runs on Wednesday and Saturday. They will repeat this for a number of weeks and then increase mileage to improve performance. Inconsistent runners on the other hand will have no structure, run when they feel like it, skip sessions, run 30 miles one week and then 6 the week after and so on. No pattern to their training.

"STAY ON TOP OF YOUR TRAINING, DONT LET IT BURY YOU"

So, why is Consistency important?

Let's take our inconsistent runner above, running 30 miles one week and 6 the week after. That hard work you've put in improving your fitness is lost the week after by running less mileage. It's counterproductive your not allowing your body to adapt to 30 miles as it would if you keep the mileage the same and then increasing over the coming weeks. some of the benefits of training consistently -

  1. Adaptations - running consistent mileage, regular workouts your body will become conditioned and adapt to the training stresses.

  2. Race Performace - runners always want to race, by consistently training you put yourself in a better position of chasing those PB's. Even if your goal isn't a race, instead, losing some weight - achieving that goal is what keeps us running.

  3. Satisfaction - this is one of the biggest benefits for me - you may not always want to get out and train/run but once you've laced up and got out you feel so much better for it. Doing what you know you need to do to become a better version of yourself.

Stay consistent with your training all year round and you will enjoy decreased soreness, lower the risk of injury which will all lead to better performance.
